AMS2 Next Update Brings Major Wet Weather and AI Improvements
Summary
Reiza Studios has previewed significant wet-weather enhancements coming to Automobilista 2, including improved track surface visuals, more realistic drying lines, and a new dedicated wet racing line for AI drivers.
Improved Wet Racing Dynamics Coming to AMS2
Reiza Studios has released a preview of the latest developments for wet-weather racing in the next Automobilista 2 update, introducing improvements that will make changing weather conditions feel more realistic than ever.
The update focuses heavily on the visual representation of evolving track conditions. Enhancements to shaders, particles, textures, and lighting allow the circuit surface to transition more naturally between fully saturated, damp, and dry states. Drivers will also notice a much clearer dry racing line forming as cars circulate and gradually dry the asphalt.
To demonstrate the new system, Reiza showcased a 10-lap race using a 5x time progression setting. With both time and track evolution accelerated, viewers can clearly see the progression from wet conditions toward a drying circuit within a short race distance.
Another major feature highlighted in the preview is the introduction of a dedicated wet racing line for AI drivers. Instead of following the standard racing line regardless of conditions, AI competitors will now actively seek safer areas of the track when rain is present.
This new behaviour allows the AI to avoid heavily rubbered sections that become more slippery when wet and steer clear of areas where standing water is likely to accumulate during heavier rainfall. The result should be more realistic decision-making, improved racecraft, and stronger AI performance in challenging weather conditions.
The demonstration was run with AI Skill set to 108% and High Aggression, providing a glimpse of how these improvements perform under demanding race scenarios.
With Automobilista 2 already offering one of the most advanced dynamic weather systems in sim racing, these upcoming changes promise to further enhance immersion and realism for both single-player and multiplayer racers.
