Tyres, weather and race calls

A quick guide for choosing tyres, pace and pit timing when the track changes. Less theory, clearer signals before entering the pits.

Updated June 16, 2026

Quick decision

The track does not change the calculation if you already know fuel per lap, but it changes the risk: length, rain, traffic and pit loss can turn a correct call into a bad stop.

If the car does this

Slicks will not turn in rain

The compound is out of window. Slow down for a lap or switch to wet tyres if the track is already wet.

Wet/intermediate overheats

The track is probably too dry. Avoid sliding and prepare the switch to slicks.

Rear tyres cook on exit

Open the steering before throttle, check diff/traction and do not use wet kerbs like dry kerbs.

Front tyres stay cold

They need load and stable pace. Pushing too early can create graining or locking instead.

You do not know what the pit will do

Create a Pit Strategy preset, save it and select it from MFD/ICM before entering.

The race is timed

Add margin: if you cross the line just before the timer ends, AMS2 may give you another lap.

Pre-race checklist

Check weather slots, race time and track progression.

Measure consumption with the tyre you will use, not from one isolated perfect lap.

Save normal, wet and damage presets if the race is long.

Check mandatory stop, refuelling and multipliers.

If in doubt between slick and wet, compare two-lap trends instead of one feeling.

Useful strategies

Public sprint

Slicks if they fit, one extra fuel lap and no pit experiments.

Variable weather

Keep two presets: normal and wet. Decide by lap trend and visual track state.

Endurance

Prioritise stable tyres, controlled damage and fuel margin for traffic or FCY.

Track day

Do not watch only fastest lap: save stint, wear and temperature to know if pace lasts.

Guide basis

Practical summary built from community documentation, Reiza/Steam discussions and real race logic. In AMS2 each class can have different compounds and windows.

When should I switch from slicks to wets in AMS2?

When the racing line no longer lets you brake and accelerate with control. Do not decide only from the sky: watch grip, lap trends and visible water.

Do wet tyres work in the dry?

Only as a very short emergency. On insufficiently wet track they tend to overheat and wear quickly.

Should I prepare pit strategy before the race?

Yes. Dry, wet and damage presets prevent entering the pit with the MFD configured wrong.
